A slide presentation by the Ittihadiyoun group (2021) explaining the concept of federalism: federation as a union, not a partition ("partition segregates people, federation segregates power"), its origins in the Swiss pact of 1291, and the main models – confederation, decentralization, federalism by aggregation and by break-up.
It then applies these ideas to Lebanon: why the centralized system has failed, how four cultural groups with distinct readings of their past can live together, the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity, the ethno-geographic federal model, and the proposed organisation in municipalities, four cantons and a federal level.
