Defence in the federation: a federal army, and forces of the cantons coordinated with it (Art. 11, 48, 62).
In the canton, the cantons maintain reserve forces and military service, coordinated with the federal army, and their own forces under their Prime Minister.
At the federal level, a professional federal army protects the borders, under the command of the federal government.
