1990-2005 Centralized Unitary Republic (Taef amendment)
The governance period following the Taif Agreement (October 1989), incorporated into the Constitution by the amendments of 1990, which reduced the powers of the Maronite president, redistributed parliamentary seats on an equal Christian-Muslim basis, and extended Syrian tutelage over Lebanese politics until the withdrawal of Syrian forces in 2005.
