1861-1915 Organic Statute

From 1861 to 1915, Mount Lebanon enjoyed its longest era of peace and prosperity, under the Organic Statute of the Mutasarrifate.

Agreed with the European powers, it recognised the communities as nations and built power from below, with elected representatives of each community – an ethno-geographic federalism, based on shared values rather than ethnicity, that inspires the federal project.
