Shia

The Shia are one of Lebanon’s four founding communities, with their own history, values and way of life.

The Shiite canton gathers three of Lebanon’s 18 recognised communities: Shia, Alawite and Ismaili.

In the federation, the Shiite community governs itself in its own canton – its own laws, schools and reading of history – while sharing one state with the others.
