1842-1858 Reglement Chakib Effende
After the end of the emirate in 1842, Mount Lebanon was divided into two districts, one Christian and one Druze – an early geographic federalism.
Known as the Qaimaqamate (1843–1860) and organised by Chekib Effendi’s Règlement of 1845, it left each district with large minorities of the other community; tensions grew until the massacres of 1860.
