1825-1861 19th Century Republics

A period-label used by this project for Mount Lebanon’s mid-19th-century peasant uprisings and short-lived self-governing communes — including the 1821 and 1840 Ammiyya revolts and Tanios Shahin’s “Sheikh Republic” proclaimed over Kisrawan (1858–1861) — which challenged feudal rule and prefigured later demands for local self-government.
