Banking is regulated at cantonal levels. All licensing and permitting is granted by cantonal central banks.
The monetary policy will be handled by the federal central bank that will be seconded by cantonal central banks whose role will be to gather data and perform research in order to assist the federal central bank in properly managing the monetary policy.
Banks willing to operate in various cantons need to get the approval of the specific cantons.
